Informed Consent
Speaker: Dr Rachelle Love
Dr Love is an ENT Surgeon based in Ōtautahi Christchurch. Her subspecialty practice is in Sleep Surgery treating patients with sleep apnoea and sleep breathing disorders. She is regularly an invited speaker to international conferences, is active in the Australasian Sleep Association and International Sleep Surgery Society, and works within a multi-national, multi-disciplinary research group. She holds a public hospital appointment where her practice is general ENT and sleep.
Outside of clinical work, after being appointed to the Medical Council by the Minister of Health in 2020, Dr Love was elected to the position of Chair in 2024, which she held until 2026. She currently sits on the Aotearoa National Committee and the Māori Health Advisory Group for the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, is a Trustee for the Hearing Research Foundation, an Advisor to the ENT Training Board within the New Zealand Society of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery and a lecturer with the University of Otago.
Topic: Dr Love will speak on informed consent from a regulatory and professional standards perspective, focusing on how clear expectations, effective communication, and trust underpin safe clinical practice and public confidence in the profession.
She will also discuss the importance of cultural safety and ensuring patients and whānau are genuinely heard, understood, and supported to make informed decisions about their care.
